Hi Scott:
Your front 44 is neither, it has semi floating axles. Flanged and tapered are rear axles only, yours are tapered. The way to tell is in the middle of the rear lug bolts is a small cap, pry it off and under the cap will be a large nut with a cotter pin through it. The outer axle end is tappered into the wheel hub with a large key and held together with the big nut. A flanged rear axle is all one piece, hub and axle, so no cap or large nut. If you don't have one, look for a shop manual on for your FC, old ones and reprints show up on Ebay all the time. It will help you a lot with pictures and info.
