As I returned from Iowa on a rugby weekend away from the farm, I came through the small borough of Mt. Ida on Hwy 18 in Southwestern WI. Through my estimation, I've driven through this place about 244 times and never noticed much out of the ordinary, except for a recently totaled new Duramax. All of a sudden, boom, there she was, the first FC I've actually seen in person. It's only been about 4 years of looking on the internet and making calls here and there, but now I've finally seen one! The guy wanted $700 for it not knowing if the engine is seized up or not. Been sitting outside behind his shed since 1976. He used it for hauling grain/farm supplies. He told me that it was a 1/2 ton, smaller of the two made, but the door post emblem said FC 170. No bed, 4wd may not work since back in the day his kids shifted it into gear at 45mph. Though it does have the plate for a pto. Rear suspension has a couple of coil springs not attached to anything, Roof is rusted through, interior is completely gone. Still might go after it, but it might be a restoration better left to one with more FC experience. Think he'd take $350?! Told me the first one there with $700 takes it cuz it's such a rare vehicle. Either way, exhilerating to see one in person, spent 45mins lookin her over, but had to drive on. Sorry this is so long. Still in awe. Cheers, Matt.
