Howdy folks. I have been a fan of Forward Control Jeeps for many years now. I went and looked at one for sale about 20 years ago and it was then that I learned of their rust issues.
I told myself that if the right one came along, I might pick it up someday.
We have been using an International Harvester model 284 tractor to plow snow since my dad bought the tractor new in 1976. The plow is mounted on the rear of the tractor so you have to plow in reverse and turn around to see what you're plowing. Not to mention that you're out in the snow and wind while you're plowing.
Well, I finally found the FC-150 of my dreams and the transporter is delivering it this week. Wheeeeeee!!! I can't wait!!!
I've called some local plow places and hit dead ends. They all tell me it's too old to cross-reference what mainframe assembly would be needed for the plow. When I mention that it "may" be the same application as a standard CJ-5, that helps a little but most plow manufacturers don't even make CJ-5 mainframe assemblies any more.
I have all summer to get the plow project off the ground but it's never too early to start accumulating all the pieces.
I had several plow places tell me to go with a eight foot plow and that's just silly. I am only plowing my own driveway and one or two of the neighbor's driveways. I'm sure a six foot plow would be more than adequate but all the plow places tell me that the smallest plow available is the Western Suburbanite.
So I did a Google search and found this cool Forward Control forum and am asking y'all for help! Thanks in advance for any and all help!
