Posted by Greg I think it's a very sweeping claim "you CANNOT" learn from video, etc. If the video were done correctly (imagine your most respected instructor being filmed from all angles and providing commentary in his own words)and the viewer had the ability to see what they themselves were doing (eg: mirrors, camcorder)and the strength of character to see and acknowledge where they erred, then to dismiss whatever they did as waving a sword around is to insult their intelligence and your instructors ability and teaching. Obviously having an expert onhand to say "Woah... not like that" is ideal; I wouldn't argue with that for a second. But spare a thought for those too far from a dojo or too poor to afford tuition. Video might not be your first choice (it wouldn't be mine) but you manage to come across as elitist rather than perfectionist.
