You cannot assume she is not studying in a dojo. Many people use books or video to supplement their training in the dojo, which is commendable. And, yes, there are basic techniques as well as advanced ones. I don't think she was saying they are "easy." Basic and Easy are two different things. You should not judge so quickly.
