It was several hours later before Kage awoke. His consciousness that awoke first, smells and sounds wrapping around his brain lazily. They mixed together and separated repeatedly and he dozed in and out. Finally he realized he was awake, opening his mismatched eyes and giving them a few minutes to focus. He let out a groan as his stomach growled, rolling to his side to relieve the pressure a bit.
Suddenly he jumped to his feet with a start. He had just rolled into something soft, furry, and large, causing alarm and slight distress. He stared at the form of Hayden with slight disbelief, not fully remembering the events of yesterday. After several confusing moments, everything came oozing back to him. He eased himself, relaxing at the thought that he wasn't going crazy and that she was real this time.
He dipped his nose toward the ground and licked her cheek. "Hayden? Good morning..."
