Uh oh. Hayden glanced to Kage briefly, worried that he might have taken her statement the wrong way. But she followed in step with his words, giving a nod at his description of Seg. "Seg is a good and kind wolf, and I couldn't me more proud to call him even a friend. His mother has every reason to be as proud as she is of him. I can't deny a bit of jealously for her." Hayden decided to stop there, to avoid the subject of Catori herself. But, alas, Kage was unfortunate enough to bring it up himself. It was a good thing he had closed his eyes because the pain that spread across Hayden's face was pure torture. She refrained from changing her breathing so as not to alarm him. Hayden felt like she should start from the beginning.
"I've never had pups, Kage. Nor is Seg's mother really his mother. I mean, that's obvious, she's a feline. But when Seg and Catori were young pups, I came upon them at the Puppy Play area. Both were orphans, and even at such a young age, they were very much in love. So, I couldn't adopt them both if they were to be mates, so I enlisted my best friend Aranel to come adopt Seg while I adopted Catori. They were truly happy together. They had Dray as well as a daughter. But soon after a conflict between my mother and her rival Dagmir, Catori and her daughter disappeared. They never came back." Hayden paused to gather her nerves. "That was about five years ago." She managed to breathe out before she had to fall silent to conserve her emotional stability. She didn't have long with her daughter before, like her old mates, disappeared never to return. And she wished she was closer to Seg, as he was almost her son. But she didn't feel like she had the right to impose herself upon Seg because Catori disappeared, though Seg was pained in the disappearance, as well.
