Kage gave a wolfish groan. Had they really both been looking for each other? He could just picture himself entering a place where her scent had just disapated, where at the same time it was happening vis versa. He shook his head, angry with fate and mother nature for the moment. Recalling Hayden's tales of past lovers, Kage only had more remorse. He forced her to look squarely into his eyes.
"Hayden, I'm not about to leave you," he said, sincerety not bothering to be hidden. "We were just running into a bout of bad luck is all." He wagged his tail in hope to lighten her mood.
He licked her cheek, really feeling sorry for her. Damning himself, he added, "I'm sorry, Hayden. Maybe I shouldn't let you leave my sight again." He leaned his head against her's, still angry with himself for leaving her to worry over her loneliness.
