read your message about martin tjaden who was married to gesina ter veen in the 1885 census , in grundy county iowa martin was listed a sailor for an occupation do you know where or what he died from i have heard that he sailed the great lakes on ore boats and was lost in a storm and boat capsized have not been able to confirm that part of his life In 1890 gesina married gerd schutjer who was my ggrandfather in 1895 or 96 bertha tjaden daughter of martin and gesina married hanko or henry schutjer son of gerd schutjer whose wife died about the same year as martin if you know of any info about martin I would appreciate it
