While transcribing the letters from my great-grandfather from WW1 I ran across Remarque's novel "All Quiet on the Western Front". There is a Tjaden in it who plays quite a major role in that novel. Does anybody know if there is a real Tjaden who might have inspired Remarque to include this character in his novel?
