My family always pronounced it "Jah-din". But, when I served in the USAF back in the early 70's it was easier to have people pronounce it "Jay-din". I was told by my parents that it was a Dutch name. I have since discovered that my ancestors came from Ostfriesland. They lived in a town called Rysum which is now a part of Germany. If I don't feel like explaining about the whole Frisian thing I just say it's a German name.
