My grandfather (whose father came to England - he was born here) pronounced it 'char-den' (long 'a' as in English pronounciation of 'fast') but most other English people pronounced it 'jay-den' and the family more or less gave up bothering. A relative who ran an electrical business dropped the 't' because it confused customers.
