: Hello Melissa,
:
: I came across a reference to George Grimshaw
: while researching a book on Griffintown, an
: old Irish neighbourhood in Montreal. The
: reference was in a collection of newsletters
: written for servicemen in World War II by
: the Griffintown Club. It is only a brief
: mention in a list of updates on their
: locations:
: The quote from Grif News No. 11, Feb. 1944,
: reads: "George Grimshaw is now reported
: POW in Japan. He was with the Royal Rifles
: in Hong Kong. He was taken prisoner on
: Christmas day 1941 and nothing was heard
: from him until Sept. 11, 1943. His letter,
: mailed, June 11, 1942, says he is in good
: health and passed the time by playing
: softball and volleyball."
: I have been trying to find out what happened
: to him and to other members of the
: Griffintown Club who served in the war.
: Do you think this might be your grandfather?
: Lovell's Montreal Street Directory for 1940
: lists two George Grimshaws, one on Seigneurs
: St., the other on Quesnel St. There was also
: a Charles Grimshaw at the Seigneurs St.
: address.
: I am learning all over again in my reading
: how much we owe the brave war veterans like
: your grandfather,
:
: Sharon

: I was just wondering if there was anyone out
: there who knew of, or has any information
: regarding my grandfather/had friendship with
: him. He was a Royal Rifleman and was
: captured and held as a POW until the end of
: the war. He was from Beloiel/Montreal,
: Quebec... Any information would be
: appreciated. Thanks.
