Posted by Paul Pearce-Smith My friend is trying to trace his uncle (Andrew John McKay) who emigrated to Canada from here in Limavady, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland prior to World War 2. He was apparently known, mainly, by the nickname "Sonny" I have put a message on another board as seen above, and it yielded results as did a search through the HKVCA lists. Does anyone out there know anything of this man please? Paul

On behalf of a friend I am trying to find details of his uncle, the details of whom are below:-
He is known to have served in C Force with the Royal Rifles of Canada and was captured and made a POW on the fall of Hong Kong. By using other sites such as Maple Leaf Up and HKVCA, I have managed to find that this persons home town was listed as Lindsay Ontario.
I have also found that he was shipped to Japan on the third transportation from Hong Kong aboard the Tatsuta Maru leaving HK Jan 19th Jan 1953, arriving in Nagasaki Jan 23rd 1943.
His first POW Camp was on Kyushu Island (JP-Fu-5B). He survived the incarceration, but the family is almost certain that he had his tongue cut out for some reason, and was unable to speak coherently.
It is known that he stopped off (or visited by other means) Northern Ireland on his release, and that is where contact seems to end. It is thought that he either drove a taxi, or started a taxi business, in civilian life but that is all that is suspected.
