Family and Community Boatbuilding at Strawbery Banke! Have you always dreamed of building your own wooden boat? Bring generations together in a fun, cooperative project that strengthens family bonds, builds teamwork and knowledge, and gives you the chance to explore local waterways on a rowing craft you’ve built yourself. In a single weekend, skilled boatbuilders from The Compass Project of Portland, Maine, will guide your group through the process of building a 12-foot rowing skiff. Instructors and volunteers will assist every step of the way, from reading plans to tool handling to construction to launching. No special skills or tools are needed; all materials, instruction, and equipment will be provided. Family Boatbuilding is an inexpensive way to get your group or family involved in the traditional experience of boating on Piscataqua waterways. The program begins Friday, August 12, and concludes Sunday, August 14. The program is part of the Maritime Days weekend event at Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth.
