Posted by Doyle on 2/21/2006, 8:14 pm, in reply to "cost of WPG" I found one in Whitehall, MI (Griff's I.N.T.), where I bought mine for $600, on a payment plan. They had three breeding pairs (six dogs), and talked the talk of a real breeder. When I finally paid them off after 3 months (which, granted, was nice of them to do), I got his papers, which indicated that he was in-bred, not in-line bred. His ma/dad were brother/sister. Regardless, I liked the dog and kept him, after neutering to stop the in-bredness. FYI, I had the pedigree checked by some real dog people, when I was not that knowledgeable, and they concurrred that I am correct in the thought of poor breeding practices by Griff's I.N.T. OK, enough venting, I know a guy that has two Griff's from Minnesota that are real good hunters, with beautiful tight short coats. I don't know the cost, but I can forward the breeder name if you want. I follow NAVHDA and they seem to breed some good pups, I just have to look back in a few magazines to get the breeder's name. That all said, my Griff Ace is available to a good weather-dependent hunting home for free. Good with cats, and kids (ignores them), and other dogs. Good nose, and holds a point til you have to physically pull him off it if the bird don't move and you can't find it. But, he hunts way too slow for me, hates water, and won't hunt in the rain or if it's too hot (> 60ish). I bet you can probably get a good Grif pup for $300-600. I would recommend that you check references though, on the breed and the breeder. Peace!

I live in Michigan. My Grif is 5 years old. When I was researching WPG pups I found 3 breeders in MI. One in Champion, MI; $1,000 a pup. Little much for me, so I asked if she knew others. Champion referenced one in the Detroit area, but said that they wouldn't take a pup back if you were unhappy. I did not follow up on Detroit or their prices.
