Posted by Robert Kiefer Dave: Kevin and I discussed this a bit and came up with a few thoughts. This seems to be a property we would like to learn more about. Before We would be glad to take a look at whatever you guys develop. Regards,

I've gotten the National Park Service interested in declaring the Triton a National Historic Landmark. See email quoted below.
discussing the relative significance of the Triton, there are two issues
that must be addressed: owner support and high degree of historic
integrity. These points were not discussed in Robert Keifer's message to
you, so they should be placed on the front burner right away. The best way
to establish the relative significance of Triton and build a case for its
potential national significance may be to more clearly show that the impact
of the "around the world" demonstration was much more than just an abstract
test of its capabilities. What were the limitations previously, and what
new technologies made such long submersions now possible? Most
importantly, how was this ability exploited in terms of US missions, and
what was its impact?
