We had one Sonar man 2nd class on the world trip who gained so much weight that he could not climb through the Attack Center hatch for entering port. These hatches are typically 25 in diameter and he got stuck in the lower hatch. He was forced to remain on board until he could climb through the hatch at which point he was disqualified from further assignment to submarines. I ran across him later on one of the tenders while assigned to Commander Submarine Force, Intelligence section responsible for outfitting boats for special missions up north.
