Paul Connolly was correct that Dale Ellenwood slipped over the side while on watch duty. I just have a couple of corrections. That accident happened while tied up at the sub pier in Norfolk Virginia as our home port had been changed from New London to Norfolk. Also it happened in June of 1964 so there was no black ice but he obviously slipped on something. I remember that incident well as I was the duty yeoman at that time. Dale was a great guy and shipmate.
