Posted by Mike McCoy My memory has the Triton moored at the Groton Sub Base waiting to go into EB for de-fueling when the word reached us that the Scorpion was missing. We all knew Joe Cross and felt a personal loss of a shipmate. I lost another friend from Nuke School, MM2 Dave Stone. The book provides a history of how the US and Soviet submarine navies grew out of WWII and developed into the Cold War. For many of us that did not have the "need-to-know" this book and "Blind Man's Bluff" fills in a lot of history. We were in combat and doing our jobs. Regards to my shipmates, Mike McCoy

The non-fiction book, "SCORPION DOWN" by Ed Offley, was published in 2007. I completed it today and recommend it to Triton shipmates. You can then wrestle with the author's conclusions that the USS Scorpion (SSN 589) was sunk by a Soviet submarine and underwent a cover-up by the Pentagon.
