Posted by Henry Jackson Pete was married to the late Geneva Taddia Springer on April 24, 1954, in West Springfield. She passed away in 1992. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1967. In 1960, Peter served aboard the USS Triton, where he was in charge of the engine room; and was aboard the ship when it made the historic first underwater circumnavigation of the world. He received a Presidential Unit Citation for this voyage. Following Peter's retirement from the Navy, he pursued his education at Central Connecticut State University, graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in education. He went to work for the Groton Board of Education and taught machine trades, home mechanics and driver's ed for 17 years at Fitch High School. In 1984, he decided to pursue a career in manufacturing, and was hired by WGIC as a toolmaker at the Wyman-Gordon plant in Groton until his final retirement. His memberships included the Sacred Heart Church in Groton, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was involved in the Catholic Marriage Preparation Program, the New London VFW, a member and past president of both the RAFA and Pleasant Valley Fire District, and a member of the Fleet Reserve. Pete is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kathi Springer of Preston, and a granddaughter, Stacey Feldman of Florida. He was predeceased by his daughter, April Noga; two sisters, Theresa Borsari and Dorothy Oney; and a brother, Roger Springer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Sacred Heart Church in Groton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery also in Groton. Visiting hours will be held prior to the Mass from 10 to 11:30 Wednesday at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames. St.

Groton — Peter F. Springer, 76, of 425 Drozdyk Drive in Groton, formerly of Mardie Lane, passed away Nov. 2, 2006, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
He was born on Aug. 16, 1930, in Springfield, Mass., the son of George A. and Gloria Bergeron Charbonneau Springer.
