Triton to special not to be saved

I just finshed Captain Beach's book - what an amazing read and what a great author the late Captain was. In all honesty, after reading his book, I wonder why the Triton was never preserved in some manner -- she is so special and unique, I think some coastal city or Great-Lakes port would have welcomed the ship as a perm. museum.
