Deb
This is pretty young to wean an angora baby.. They mature so much slower than other breeds.. They do much better leaving them nursing until at least 6 months old.. Grain is difficult for her to digest.. at this age and it could cause problems health wise (enterotoxemia, grain overload, impacted rumen, scouring).. sounds almost like they have free choice grain? Cut back on it.. a 4 month old baby should have no more than a slight 1/4 cup grain daily if any at all..
Stress includes an outbreak of internal parasites, pneumonia, scours, loss of weight are the most prevelant signs.. It is always a good idea to de-worm them and a half cc of VitB12 (Rx) will help with stress.. look for pneumonia, summer pneumonia is worse than winter for angoras.. keep an eye for coccidiosis as well..
: I have a 4 month old angora goat doe whom we
: just separated from her mother because we
: have sold her mother and wanted the weaning
: to take place before she left the farm. The
: kid is in with our other kid goats, including
: anogras (all bottle fed babies). No one is
: picking on her. The first couple of days she
: cried back and forth with the mom. Now the
: third day she acts more content being in the
: the kids. What signs of stress should I be
: watching for her? She doesn't seem to be
: eating much but when she was first put in
: there she ate more grain than she had in the
: past since she didn't have to compete for it
: with the adults. I've been watching how much
: hay she is eating and she is just
: occasionally nibbling. It has only been 3
: days since she had been weaned. Advice?
