Janet rang the door bell. Foot steps could be heard as the person on the other side of the door approached. The door opened, there stood Ms. Edwards's Her hair was white and in a bun, she wore an old fashioned dress with a cooking apron tied to the back. She wore old style nursing shoes.
"Janet. Nice to see you." She said smiling
Mrs. Edwards felt the cold and shivered.
"Sure is a cold morning."
Janet pulled her jacket closed and folded her arms answering.
"Sure is." Janets' voice shuttered.
Come in, come in." She said as she motioned her hand.
Janet stepped in. The suit caught the attention of Mrs. Edward's.
"New outfit?" She asked.
"Yes. I just got it." Janet said.
Mrs. Edward's smiled saying
"Well it looks very nice. Lets wait till it warms up before we start to work on the yard.
"That would be nice." Janet said.
They both stepped into the kitchen. Mrs Edwards's gave Janet a cup of coffee and herself one also. They talked and laught for about an hour before going outside to work in the yard. Janet took off her suit, but had shorts and a tank top on underneath, and started to work in the flower bed. About hour passed, when Janet heard children laughing just down the way.
The laughter got louder. Mrs Edward's stood up from her seat on the porch to see what the children were laughing about. Janet on her hands and knees in the flower bed pulling weeds, also curious, and looked over her shoulder to see what all the laughter was about.
Then 3 boys in there early teens were making fun a of a young girl. She was crying and trying to get away from them but they blocked her path. One of the boys made a rude comment.
"Hey four eyes! Can you see four of me!"
Anther one said.
"YEa! With four eyes you should be four time's as smart."
The boy laught at her The young girl cried.
"Stop! It's not funny"
Thye started to pushing her from one boy to the other chanting.
"FOUR EYES! FOUR EYES!"
Janet got got up and yelled.
"LEAVE HER ALONE!"
The boys stopped and looked at Janet.
"GET OUT OF HERE AND LEAVE THAT GIRL ALONE!" Janet again said.
One of the boys pushed the girl to the ground and stood his ground and said.
"Make us!"
Janet walked toward them in a firm manner.
"I said for you to leave her alone. She said as she got closer.
Mrs Edward's stood there on the porch watching Janet go to the rescue of the youn girl. Then one of the boys lunged at Janet kn knocking her to the ground.
The other two boys piled on also. Janet struggled to throw them off. But all three were to strong for her to handle. Then in a loud voice Mrs. Edward's called out.
"Stop! Stop this instantance do you hear!"
One of the boyds looked up. He got slight fear on his face.
"Oh crap!" It's old lady Edward's. Lets get the heck out of hear before she case a spell on us!"
The other boy looked up, and fear came across there faces also. They all got up and made a mad dash across the street. One ran in front of a car, and almost got hit. Janet watched the boys run, turning she looked at Mrs Edward's. She was scowling at them. A crying little voice was heard.
"Thank you! Thank you for helping me!" The little girl said.
Janet got up brushing herself off. The girl went over and hugged Janet.
"It's OK. Are you all right?" Janet asked.
The girl looked up at her wtih tears in her eyes and smiled.
"Yes."
Janet knelt down
"OK. Then you should run home."
The little girl nodded smiling, and ran down the sidewalk. Janet smiling at the girl as she watched her run down the street, she stood up and walked back toward the flower bed mumbling.
"Stupid boys. can't leave a young girl alone. They must have been twice her age. Dorks!"
"Are you ok Janet?" Mrs Edward's asked.
Janet brushed her shorts off and looked up at Mrs. Edward's.
"Yea I'm fine. I can't believe those jerks picking on a young girl. I just wished I was a little bigger, then I could have cleaned there clock's, or just given them a good scare."
