Posted by The Snake I think my favourite eps in this series were the first two. Two street bums meet power rangers, what a great idea! The fight scenes here were really good, and thanks to my ignorance of sentai, I did not know that this would be a 5 ranger team this year, not until we learn that Jack and Z were giving their stuff to poor old homeless aliens. At first I thought they were just an excuse to show off the martial arts. I was surprised to get a full 7 regular rangers in this series, not to mention another two for one episode each. To me, Doggie’s morphing was pleasantly surprising and pretty darn cool. Omega’s appearance was annoying. The episoides that centered on him were also annoying. Of course this isn’t an original criticism when it comes to 6th rangers, but at first he appeared to be close to invincible, but by the end of the series he was just another ranger. Oh well, neat having it turn out to be Sam. I was also ultimately glad we did not see to much of him later on in the series, maybe the writers had an idea of how annoying he had become? It seemed that, (although my gut feeling isn’t always great at math) there were more standalone eps this season and fewer continuing storylines. But whatever this show lacked in plot it made up for in character. Of course the stars were always Jack and Sky. I really appreciated the gradualness of the bonding of these two characters, and the growth of Sky as a person. It was a GREAT nod to “Beginning part 1” when Sky said in “Endings part 2”, “Sir, I’d follow anyone you feel is qualified to be leader”, or something to that effect. Really good attention to detail here. It was a really good ending for both Sky and Jack, where they both got to do what they really wanted to do. Another great line was, Z’s, “Guess we’re both part of something bigger huh?” Remember how when PRTF ended there was a small online petition to keep the rangers for next season? I didn’t sign up (I don’t think I did), but I definitely understood the mindset of people who did. I strongly doubt a similar petition existed this time around, but if it did I would understand the mindset of these people. This cast was truly great. Acting was really good too, although the guy who played Sky wasn’t the best. Is it just me, or do the rangers not seem to make really good use of their unmorophed powers these days. Some were used more than others, I doubt Jack walked through any walls in more than 4 eps, although, again, my gut isn’t necessarily great at math. To me, PRDT and PRNS were two of the finest series to date, with perhaps PRDT winning the award of my favourite. I missed some of the light-heartedness that had been present in these two series, but I guess PRSPD just wasn’t that kind of series, although the Piggy stuff was good. Boom… well, Boom was less good, althought he too had his moments. All in all, PRSPD was a very worthy addition to the franchise. Can’t wait to see what we’ve got coming to us in the future.
