Posted by Glenda Lohmann This may be the same WILLIAM who shows up in Greene Co., GA, Slaughter's Dist. on the 1821 GA Land Lottery, and is possibly the same individual who shows up on the 1827 Statewide GA Land Lottery, residing in Franklin Co.,Boswell's Dist. I'm trying to find a connection to other East GA Hammond men: Daniel Hammond/Hammon in Jackson Co., Strickland's Dist. on the 1821 GA Land Lottery and William Hammons/Hammond in Oglethorpe Co, McCown's Dist. (my ancestor). Does anyone know which of these HAMMOND men connect to each other? My ancestor, WILLIAM W. HAMMOND/HAMMONS, was b: 1803/04 in Oglethorpe Co., GA. WILLIAM d: 15 Sep 1872 in Jackson Co., GA. He is a possible son of CHARLES HAMMONS/HAMMOND, b: Abt. 1775 in possibly SC or VA. CHARLES d: 1833/34 in Oglethorpe Co., GA and is buried at the HOPPER-HAMMOND CEM. CHARLES was married to a CLARICCY, b: 1776 in VA. She d: Aug 1860 in Oglethorpe Co. William's surname was written as HAMMONS and HAMMOND, as well as HAMMONDS.

Looking for information on the WILLIAM HAMMOND who was listed as a Tax Defaulter on the 1809 Jackson Co. Tax Defaulters' List, Capt. Reed's District.
{Incidentally, my WILLIAM W. HAMMOND named one of his sons BOSWELL HAMMOND. CHARLES HAMMOND (William's possible father, also named a son BOSWELL.}
There is a WILLIAM HAMMOND who is deeded property from WILLIAM WILBANKS in Franklin Co., GA in 1823. The deed information states that both men are from Franklin Co., GA.
Other Hammond/Hammons living in the E. GA area about that time:
Ambrose Hammons in Hall Co. in 1820; Charles Hammons in Oglethorpe Co. (my ancestor); Elijah Hammons in Hall Co., John Hammons in Hall Co., Jonathan P. Hammons in Hall Co., and a William Hammons in Hall Co.
Also in 1820: Abner Hammond, Daniel Hammond, Joseph Hammond and Mark Hammond were in Jackson Co. Abraham Hammond, John Hammond, and Michael Hammond were in Wilkes Co. John Hammond was in Elbert Co. Raleegh Hammond, Robert Hammond, and William Hammond were in Greene Co. Susannah Hammond (I believe she was a Rev. War Widow) was in Walton Co. Harrison Hammonds was in Jones Co. and Isaac Hammonds was in Morgan Co., GA in 1820.
She may be buried in an unmarked grave at the same cemetery as her husband.
