Sitch for sewing plastic panels together for a tote bag.

Nearly 30 years ago, I made a beautiful needle point tote bag, which still gets a lot of use. Because of teaching school and dealing with a sick child, the needle pointing was put aside for decades. Now that 5 plastic panels are finished, I can't recall how the panels were sewn together. The stitches seem to crisscross each other, looking firmer than just the regular stitch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
