In German, "faden" does mean thread. And "schwarzer" means black. "Gesichter" means faces.
I believe your numbers are for Vaupel & Heilenbeck threads. Try this page, I have navigated through the German from the homepage right to the page you need:
http://www.vaupel-heilenbeck.de/index.php?li=2&fl=161&si=143&lang=de&css=css/standard
I also searched on a conversion chart and found this:

: A friend of a friend loaned me a gorgeous book
: of cross stitch designs and the problem for
: me is – it’s in German (Book has been
: returned until I can work out thread
: conversions.
:
: The designs are great, whimsical and I’m
: itchin’ to stitch a couple….. BUT the thread
: numbers don’t seem to match/convert with any
: I’ve seen before. The models look like
: they’re stitched with cotton thread… can
: anyone help with numbers – for example 2061
: (yellow), 3006 (think this is white judging
: by the symbols), 3993, 3985, 3986, 4039,
: 3977, 1003, 4022 (these are pinks to plum
: shades) and 4024, 4000, 3212 (greens): 2023
: (black by the look of it). Text beside the
: colour chart is ‘Steppstitche gesichter: 1
: Faden (I think this might mean stitch with 1
: strand) and schwarzer Twist MEZ 403.
:
: If there was a conversion chart within the
: book I obviously wouldn’t be asking for
: help. Plus – I’ve searched the internet for
: thread companies and conversions and can’t
: seem to find anything remotely helpful. If
: no-one can assist I’ll just run with
: ‘closest to..’ format from my DMC stash.
:
: Hope to hear from someone.
:
: Thanks stitchers.
:
: Cheers
