Hi Ann,
Curious - what is the name of the German book of patterns?
In a search I found a German company, called Vaupel & Heilenbeck that has a conversion chart for their threads to DMC, will post links below.
One link has a colour shot of the threads.
Baumwolle means cotton, so I'm assuming that they are similar to DMC floss even though their skeins look different!
If you also have noted down the thread numbers and their colour names (even if they are in German) could you please post them back here, if the Vaupel & Heilenbeck don't seem to match, maybe a search could be done using them.
