baby hat/wedding handkerchief

I am hoping some lovely person out there could please help. I was given a little square of linen that has been folded into a baby's hat. It is just gorgeous and has lace all round it. The hat is to be worn for a baby to bring home in and kept for it's wedding day when it can be unpicked and used as a handkerchief for the bride to carry. As I have a granchild due I'd love to do this for it---sex unknown. What can I embroider on it or does anyone have any idea as to what I can put on the corner. I cross-stitch and knit and crochet.
