Posted by Rod on 3/20/2002, 4:08 pm It was that time of year when summer gives way to autumn, it was morning and the city was becoming alive to the sound of traffic and people were beginning to scurry around like ants. Although they had said their goodbyes the previous weekend when they left the hotel he had to see her one last time. He had taken a risk and left a message on her answer phone and he wasn't sure if she'd got it or if she would come. He walked through one of the side entrances to the park, the black wrought iron gates somehow looked foreboding which didn't help the butterflies which were playing havoc with his stomach. Would she see him again or was she hurting too much? Did she want to try and forget him? While these and other thoughts were flooding his into his mind in his heart he felt an emptiness, he just had to see her again. The dew lay thick on the grass and was sparkling like glitter in the morning sunlight as he made his way along the winding path. He rounded the corner and could see the lake before him with a thin blanket of mist hovering as if by magic above the surface of the water. And there close to the water's edge was their tree, a willow standing majestically like a living statue. It's branches hanging down almost to the ground forming a curtain behind which was their special place. He wished they hadn't had to be so secretive but their lives were complicated and lunchtimes in the park together had been the safest way. As he approached the tree he was sure he caught the familiar scent of cigarette smoke in his nostrils, he parted the branches and his heart skipped a beat. He felt as if he was stepping into another world, a world where dreams come true and fantasies are realized. There she was, the personification of beauty. She was standing looking out over the lake her warm brown eyes focused on the memory of her passionate weekend with Harry. She was leaning with her back against the tree trunk, the perfect features of her faced framed by her long dark hair. One arm folded across her chest with her hand cradling the elbow of her other arm and between her delicate fingers a few inches from her face she was holding her ever present cigarette. Harry stood frozen in space and time mesmerized by this vision. Sue, brought the cigarette to her lips almost as if in slow motion like two lovers kissing for the first time. Her moist lips gently caressing and encircling the cork filter. Always faithful, always satisfying, her lover's one desire, to give her endless pleasure. She closed her eyes and performed an action which she had done thousands of times before but each time it thrilled her as she spread her fingers with delight and sucked the warm creamy nectar into her waiting mouth. In a single well practiced movement, closing her fingers once more she opened her lips, withdrew her cigarette and let the thick ball of smoke escape momentarily into the still air. As if on a rubber band she pulled the smoke back into her mouth and sucked it deep down into her lungs. She closed her lips and smiled as she felt the familiar tingling sensation in her lungs. She could feel the smoke delivering it's payload of nicotine and could sense a warmth spreading throughout her body. Harry loved to watch Sue smoke and it never failed to excite him. He waited with anticipation for the long endless stream of smoke from her lips which he knew would be followed by two jets cascading like waterfalls from her nostrils. He wasn't disappointed. After holding the smoke for what seemed like eternity, Sue exhaled in her customary way. Billowing and swirling, the smoke caught in the sunlight, expanding to bathe her face in soft hazy light. Seeing her again and seeing her smoke reminded Harry just how beautiful she was. She turned to face him and they embraced, he buried his face in her soft silky hair and breathed in deeply savouring that smell which was her's alone. It was a fresh subtle smell with a hint of Jasmine interwoven with a strong smell of cigarette smoke. He closed his eyes and held her close and only relaxed his arms when she turned her head to satisfy her constant need for nicotine. "Harry, my train leaves in twenty minutes so I can't stop long but after hearing your voice on the answer phone I couldn't leave without giving you one last kiss." She held her cigarette to her lips once more and with the skill and expertise of a practiced smoker pumped three mouthfuls of rich warm smoke into her lungs. Her brown doe eyes never left Harry's, they pulled him towards her. Resistance was the last thing on his mind but it would have been futile, he was under her spell and totally hypnotized. She dropped her cigarette which was now almost down to the filter and slipped her hands behind his head. Her fingers slid through his hair and her long red nails dug into his scalp giving him no choice but to obey. She gripped his head firmly and after sealing her lips around his, used her tongue to coax his mouth open. She let him have it and Harry's legs turned to jelly as he felt her creamy love forcing it's way down his throat filling his lungs with thick smoke laced with her essence. He closed his eyes and found himself on a journey with Lucy in the sky with diamonds, flying between the stars to distant galaxies, blinding flashes exploding all around him...... He shook his head and blinked several times to try and get his bearings, was he dreaming or was that the kiss of kisses? He looked around..... he was alone, Sue had vanished and had gone from his life for ever. He wanted to go after her but he knew it was pointless, he and Sue were not to be. He looked at the tree and put his arms around itÂ’s trunk holding it close, this tree would always remind him of her and the beautiful times they had together. He turned to leave, vowing he would return on this day every year to this their special place but then something caught his eye. He felt a warm smile in his heart, the tree had kept a little piece of Sue for him to remember her by. Hanging from the rough bark was a single strand of her long dark hair ....... "Harry! are we going coast to coast or what!" Snapping out of his daydream and quickly coming back to the present he replied, "Nearly there, do you remember the hotel where we spent that weekend?" "Sure", she said in a slow seductive voice, the smoke of her exhale taking on the shape of the word. "Well Sue, it's at the bottom of this hill just over the bridge by the stream, or it was 15 years ago."
It must have been nearly 15 years ago that they said goodbye. Harry located the fond memory in his archive of dreams and loaded the video in his head.
"Thanks for coming", Harry said softly.
