Hi, Ive been trying to track down my dads family tree too, it seems the surname originates in the north of england, my great grandfather (Thomas Banks) travelled to motherwell in scotland then over to county down in ireland, they all moved south eventually, and my mum and dad came back here (Leicester), if you find any links id be gratefull of the info.
