Another thing to keep in mind is the conformation of the average miniature horse - in general, they have small hind ends, and disproportionately large heads - when compared to full-sized horses. So, you need to be careful to not accentuate the small bum OR the big heads. Good luck - I'm still learning how to capture minis at their best!

I second Gail's response, but further to that, I'm going to venture a little farther and say that you may even want to lay right down on the ground, especially for the smaller miniatures (under 30"). You've probably seen Amy Toner's work in the World magazine, and she lies right on the ground to get all those great shots.
