Posted by Nelson Leonard Photography I was watching a college football game a few Sundays ago and there must had been two inches of water on the field with on and off downpours. Very exciting game though because of the additional challenges for the players. The same holds true for horse and rider in competition. You too must accept the challenge of inclement weather. This is where your skills and abilities as a photographer come into play. You must be able to shoot under any adverse situation and get the shots. If you don't like this type of conditions, it will show up in your photographs. Pack up and go home. If you want to learn how? Dive in! Good experienced photographers have many developed styles of shooting. Yes, there is a preconceived style in equine photography just like in weddings. Is it right? No one style or method is always correct. You asked the question: Why not! Sure! Absolutely! Change your style to a Photojournalism or Documentary style approach. Capture the mud flying in the air, the perseverance in the rider's face and the expression of the horse's power! You feel the emotions and anticipate every move. Then...Click. Get the idea. Best regards,

Not much you can do about rain except bring a raincoat or umbrella and deal with it. Keep a small towel handy to dry off your hands and camera.
You have the shot.
