Melody, First of all, no question is dumb. It may be basic, but if you don't know the answer, asking is the only way to find out. When I started I felt funny about asking "stupid" questions. I think Carien's response was great. I also recommend that you do not use a tripod. I use a monopod all the time. It is easy to move and is a great help in balancing and steadying your camera. The other advise is to be careful with a flash. If you are using a flash, try not to shoot head-on. If you use a flash, try a profile or 3/4 front from a distance. Also, whether you shoot from inside the arena or outside will depend upon how large the arena is and how large the class is. I always prefer inside, but if it gets too crowded in there you can get in trouble. Sometimes you are concentrating on one team and don't see another coming. Don't ask me how I know this!!!! Have fun with it!!
