I am currently shooting with the Nikon D1X and I love it! However I am told that the new D100 is going to be real nice. You might want to look at WWW.dpreview.com under Nikon, you can get a wealth of information there on this camera.
I bought a lens that has changed my life!! Ha Ha No I really mean it, as I shot all manual with a Nikon FM-2 for 18 years.
I you want a fast fast fast focus go for the Nikon 80-200 silent wave motor ED F 2.8 lens. It can focus faster than my own eye!! No kidding. The focus is there when I need it. I shoot Hunters and Jumpers and I can't have any delay of any sorts.
Spend the money.... if your serious about your work then your equipment should reflect it.
