Posted by MN~Sue on 5/24/2005, 11:28 am, in reply to "The Best Diet as rated by Consumer Reports" Thanks for the link. It was an interesting article. Just thought I would add a few of my thoughts after reading it. I liked reading the comments about the findings. There are always 2 sides to every story, so glad they included some of those responses to the CR article on WebMD. For example, Consumer Reports rating does not take into consideration the different health problems that might dictate what type of diet one 'needs' to follow. For me, years back, WW would have been a good diet to follow, but today with diabetes, I have to count carbs I think it is too bad Consumer Reports didn't mention how health problems may come into play with diets people choose and a 'one size fits all' recommendation of the 'best diet' plan might not fit the bill with those with certain health problems. Just as with endo, meat and dairy may make it worse, due to the hormones in those foods. People have to know their body and choose their diet plan accordingly. Eating less calories than one burns will always equal weight loss, but only some diets will be good for specific health problems - I think CR needed to add. My philosophy is to consider whether one has any health concerns and THEN choose the eating lifestyle that best serves those concerns and helps with weight loss if that is needed and find a happy medium. Thanks again, Becky! It was an interesting read and thought provoking. Love,
Hi Becky,
to control my blood sugar levels. If I followed WW solely, it would probably be too high in carbs for someone with diabetes. HOWEVER, I do see that WW frozen meals in the grocery stores are JUST NOW taking that into account with a new line of meals that are now low carb, so maybe they are starting to make meals better suited for the diabetic. For example, they have the roasted turkey with stuffing and baked apples which is high in carbs and NOW they have the turkey and veggie (broccoli and some other veg maybe - can't remember right now) as another option, MUCH lower in carbs. That is the meal I can eat, without the stuffing and sweetened apples
It makes a big difference in my blood sugar levels.
