Posted by MN~Sue on 5/15/2005, 12:21 pm, in reply to "how is everyone?" Nice to get your update! Glad to hear you are still seeing progress; that is GREAT!! I think the way your clothing is fitting is the BEST measurement of progress, much more so than a scale! Did you happen to see the last Oprah show on her tips for weight loss? It was on after the one I posted about below. It was interesting too. Have you seen her lately? She looks SOOOO good, doesn't she?!! What a remarkable job she has done!! She is my same age, so that gives me some encouragement too, haha. Although, she started long before me with her efforts. One tip by her trainer was to not weigh one's self until 2 months into the lifestyle changes. He explained how one's weight will jump around a lot, especially when exercising, it can actually go up a few pounds then back down and back up. That is what was happening to me, so it was nice to hear that was a normal progression. As Oprah said, it is in those first couple weeks that the biggest weight loss comes all at once, so don't get discouraged when it slows after that and may go up and down, besides. Her personal advice was to weigh in that first 2 weeks when it can encourage one to see progress and then stay away from the scale, weighing maybe at only 2 week intervals. I still haven't been able to get away from weighing every day, but even though I would like to see more 'steady' progress, I am not letting it affect my determination, as I know I need to do this as a lifestyle change, regardless of the pace or amount of weight loss. I have bounced between 26 and 28 pounds lost at this point, so when doing the math, I guess that is right around the max they advise losing on a weekly basis - averaging about 2 pounds a week. I went for a LONG stretch without seeing any change in the scale though, after I lost the initial 20 pounds back mid April. I am very pleased with the amount lost at this point, plus the degree of exercise I am doing. It makes me feel good about my efforts, at least I will post the site to Oprha's trainer (Bob Greene), in case you want to check that out for info. He has a newer book out (Jan '05). I haven't checked the site out yet, but will. I got a couple of books from the library Friday. One is a cookbook for the South Beach diet and the other is the book by the 2 doctors that Oprah had on her show that I posted about below, called: You, The Owner's Manual. I may try to get Bob Greene's book at the library too. Our library has an online site where we can request books from area libraries (if ours doesn't have what we want) and then when they get them in they hold them at the front desk and mail out a notice they are there for pick-up. I love it! Makes it so nice and easy Thanks again for stopping by with an update! I check the board most every day. Keep up the good work, Kendra!!! You will feel so much better!
