Posted by MN~Sue on 5/3/2005, 8:55 pm Just wondering if anyone caught Oprah today? I recorded it, but haven't seen the entire show as yet. What I did see was very interesting. It was discussing health, anti-aging, disease, how to prevent disease, diet, etc. She had 2 doctors presenting the info. I believe the one was a cardiologist that helped perform President Clinton's heart surgery. These two docs wrote a book together that I plan to read. They displayed actual organs that were removed from bodies (you can see photos of all of this on Oprah's site), comparing diseased organs to healthy ones - really interesting to see what we do to our bodies by not eating/drinking well! I had to laugh, there were 2 women sharing what they ate and drank and one made the comment she didn't know why she had the constipation problems she has! All anyone had to do was listen to her confession of her awful diet to TOTALLY understand why! She never drinks water, only water that passes her lips is when she brushes her teeth and that gets spit out. I'm not sure if she was the same one that said she drank 8 cans of pop a day. One woman also said she ate fried chicken and french fries (like from a fast food restaurant) something like 4 times a week! One said she had awful hemorrhoids and sometimes couldn't get out of bed for 2 days due to it - gee I wonder why??!!! Since I didn't see the entire show, I don't know if they addressed the diabetic patient, but they didn't on the part I saw and I kept wishing they would due to the diet restrictions diabetics have. The foods they mentioned that were so important to eat (whole grains, tomatoes, etc...), which I love and would love to be able to eat more of them, are also foods that a diabetic has to limit. My diet WAS like they described, which I have now had to change much of it due to diabetes. Anyways, if you didn't see the show, I thought I would mention it and you can read more at Oprah's website. There is some great info there from these docs! Some things are simple measures you can take for disease prevention (like taking 2 baby aspirins a day - not only for heart health but for cancer prevention also). At her site they also have a short video of the after show conversation with the doctors. http://www2.oprah.com/tows/pastshows/200505/tows_past_20050503.jhtml http://www2.oprah.com/tows/after/200505/tows_after_20050503.jhtml Eat Healthy! Hi Friends,
Ya only get one body, but the encouraging note they also shared was about changing lifestyle and how every change you make, with the exception of smoking, can be reversed in 3 years! In the doctor's words, "The great news is that if you change habits now—with every habit but smoking—within three years it's as though you did that [new] habit your whole life."
