Yes, I do believe that our metabolism functions to keep us from starving and that sort of thing. I wrote a little about my thoughts on this in the post above, before I saw your post here. I know others that follow Atkin's 'type' of thinking on the high protein - low carb (sugar/starch) thing too. Many are sold on it. I am of the school that there is no 'forbidden' food, 'moderation is key' type of thinking. There are so many thoughts on this topic and so many of us will have different thinking on it, that's for sure. I have read quite a bit on the topic of low carb/high protein and other eating ideas ~ but I always go back to what I originally thought, after I read. With high protein, as Atkins encourages, I worry about the kidneys, just for one example. As far as the calorie reduction thinkng, I have a strong example living with me too, so that definitely has an impact on my thinking Oh, wanted to add that I don't 'calorie count' - I just try to eat the best choices that have the least calories. I was guessing at how many calories I might have been eating in a day, just to have some idea, but I was not 'weighing foods' or calculating calories closely, just for the heck of it was interested in what I was eating, to have some idea. I would drive myself nuts if I had to actually 'count' calories. BUT, I did find it very interesting when I would look at the nutrition info on packaging and see how much lower I COULD eat, when I paid attention to what was in what I had been consuming - it was a REAL eye opener for me! Thanks again for the discussion! This is one topic that people have been debating for years and will continue to. We have so many weight problems in this country with the way we eat and the easy access to refined and high fat/high sugar foods out there to aid us - UGH! It is a tough battle, that is for sure. We all just need to keep at it and do what works for us, I think. There will be many different ways of going about it. Thanks again, TJ! I KNOW you can do this!! You are determined and doing your research also helps keep one commited, I think - it keeps us interested and eager to find the way to the end result we want and want to keep!! Love,
Hi TJ,
I have seen the success Terry has had, he never gained any of it back, doing the 'old fashioned thinking' and is in better shape now than he probably has ever been with his workouts and nutritious eating. He was not doing well with his back problem some years ago and once he added the exercise, he is so much stronger and healthy in that area. I watched him move in our big new fridge, up stairs and maneuvering that and was PRETTY worried about him, if he was gong to put his back out when it became really tricky at a few points, lifting the entire weight on a dolly UP stairs and then it not fitting, LOL! I was really worried about his back - NO problem! He has been a good living example to me what he has been able to do with eating and exercising - hard to discount it, it worked for him, anyway. He lost the weight, without increading exercise too, but the regular exercise routine came in more recent years. I know keeping the weight off for many is not a reality, but I think many do not keep the discipline. I am sure if he went back to eating the way he was before the weight loss, he would have gained it all back and maybe more, but he sticks to the 'moderation is key' plan and has been happy and satisfied with his eating
