Even Al Roker talked about how many people die due to this surgery (1 in 300). My girlfriend said one of the guys in her support group died after surgery. It is sad. Even after the surgery there are risks. Possible Anemia and food/nutrient mal-absorbtion will be a lifelong battle. Gastric Bypass surgery is a Godsend for those who are extremely (or as the medical profession calls it "morbidly") obese. Until they find out why some people are unable to lose weight (even though they may eat EXACTLY the same as a thinner person), then Gastric Bypass is an option with those who are literally dying to lose. My girlfriends blood pressure is now normal, as well as her blood tests. She is doing well and on the road to a healthier life.
I have a friend who had the surgery over a year ago. We've known each other for over 20 years, went to high school together. She was overweight as long as I've known her. She tried everything to lose the weight. For her, health was the reason for the surgery. Her blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, etc were going up and up. Her parents and brother are not overweight like she was.
