Hi,
The etheric body sticks out around the physical body for about an inch. This might be what you had been seeing. It is like whitish light and has a fairly definite demarcation. When a person does an out-of-body in the etheric body this can seem like a ghost - so travel in this body has been observed by others. The aura is a radiation that extends beyond this and doesn't have this pronounced a demarcation - on the different levels of vibration the aura can seem different - but even on different levels it seems egg-shaped. What normally appears to people is layers of almost pastel lights which is a person's radiation and sometimes blobs of different colors which are thoughtforms.
