I grew up in a church that taught the love of God and the teachings of Jesus, and that Jesus died for our sins. There was very little of the teachings of the negative or "consequences" of not following God's ways. The Bible was taught in Sunday School and the sermons were mostly based on how to lead and live a good Christian life. I always felt free to ask questions. Nothing was beat into my head that "this is the one and only way." As a young adolescent I accepted and believed in what was taught to me, in spite of some unanswered questions (mainly what sin did I commit that Jesus had to die for me 2000 years earlier?). In later years of high school I became an agnostic (not an atheist, please note the difference). There was a lot going on in my life, and the world, and if there was a God how could He let all of this happen. My lament was for Him to just click His fingers and bring the Peace on Earth and Goodwill Towards Men that was promised. It didn't happen. It took me a lot of years for me to get over that. I eventually met someone by chance who told me about a book to read. If I remember right it was "The Origin and Destiny of Man." I read it with confusion. Who was this guy Cayce? I got his biographies and then his other books (Edgar Cayce's Story of Jesus, a good one!) and reread "Origin and Destiny of Man". It all made sense. I read and reread the Bible. It became very clear as to why Jesus became the Christ for the sake of our Eternal Salvation. I thank Edgar Cayce for bringing me back to the true teachings of God and Christ. I do not elevate Edgar Cayce as anything more than a teacher and a guider. He didn't do anything more than what we can do ourselves, if only we had the faith of a mustard seed. Believe or not believe, it is ok. Belief is based on Faith. I am no longer the Doubting Thomas. I did not inherit the sins of Adam and Eve, I committed them myself. And God's Plan for mankind reinforces His Love for mankind.
