The black wolf allowed herself to silently cry, then rose and padded off, her head and tail low. She returned to see her daughter, and hopefully Mage too, as she had rarely seen him about since Arackia's accident. The wolf didn't look back at the dog, although she suddenly realized that she hadn't even asked the names of the bird or the hybrid. Boy, I must be really losing it. The black wolf thought, feeling ashamed at her rudeness. But she was too proud to apologize, and left to be alone to herself.

Zhetteri cocked her head slightly as the bird and dog held a whispered conversation, and waited as the dog made a fool of herself, then corrected it. The black wolf still stared even after the dog was finished talking; this hybrid was surely stupid. The ebony wolfess shook her head.
