"Ah," Gir-rowel realized and shook his head. "No, magic and science are not the same thing. I may have lived with a history professor, but he and I both had our small bits of science. Science, Yaotl, is simply an activity humans perform to figure out how things work and predict what will happened when elements are combined or torn apart. It is basically a fancy name for their natural curiosity, but taken it to the extreme."
Gir-rowel began shaking his rear legs one at a time. What he felt would be good for him was a good race. "How about we find out how well developed your wings are? We'll race to that tree over there--the white one in front of those two maples--do you see it over there?"
The tree Gir-rowel pointed to was a about fifty yards away. The Gray hound promised himself to keep a slow pace, figuring that the younger two hatchlings probably couldn't even fly yet. Hopefully they would be experienced in galloping, or it would have been a very slow race indeed.
