November 6, 2009 Fishburne Military School gets first win Staff Report CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Fishburne Military School earned the first win of its postgraduate basketball program Thursday, defeating Southern Tech Academy 81-69 to even the team’s record at 1-1. “We played sloppy in the first half,” said Fishburne coach Ed Huckaby. “We had a ton of shots in the lane that wouldn’t fall. “But in the second half, our defensive pressure just wore them down. We were just more athletic and more physical.” Artie Bell led Fishburne in scoring with 26 points, including a 4-for-4 effort in the second half from beyond the arc. Khalil Murphy added 17 points and four rebounds while Donte Morales had 15 points and seven rebounds. “The backbone was Joel Brokenbrough,” Huckaby added. “He had just four points, but controlled the boards with 17 rebounds. He really set the tone for us.”
