Amen to that...and that NAIA team was 31-4 last year with a full boat of seniors and juniors this year. Fast team, constantly attacking the basket and must have shot about 70 percent in the first half.
this is a game that the Lady Dons expected to win, and probably should have, but it was the first game out of the chute for them and they looked pretty tentative and unsure of each other in the first half..but I'll give them credit for getting it going in the second half. - And one other thing...

I realize that this is the MBB team's website, but that doesn't mean that we need to hate the women's team here.
Lot's of buzz in wMG lobby pregame about the men's program getting going.

You are, sir, without a doubt, the biggest jackass on this board, or perhaps any board anywhere.
You might have been in diapers when the men's team lost to St. Anthony's..a D3 team whose collective butts we were supposed to kick.
The point is, it's early in the season and stuff like this happens...again, another reason that BCS teams don't want to play midmajors...no upside to it because they are supposed to win, but big downside if they lose.
Nothing to get excited about and certainly had it been the men's team, nobody on this board would have suggested that the season be cancelled and the players sent home. - Re: Still no EXCUSES WE ARE A NCAA D 1

The whole reason for having these exhibitions is to see where the team needs help and get a better idea of what to work on. With new players on the team, it is also a time to figure out what combinations of players work best together. One important point to remember whenever a team plays an NAIA team in an exhibition. The rules of who may play are very different:
- no five years to do four in NAIA;
- no NCAA clearinghouse in NAIA;
- more flexible academic requirements in NAIA, i.e. even less like the normal students than BCS football programs south of the Mason Dixon line and east of the Mississippi. - Re: Still no EXCUSES WE ARE A NCAA D 1

a) You have done nothing but try to piss people off from when you started to post. Have your own opinion all you want, but just being an asshole to be an asshole gets your posts deleted. You have called Roundball and Dons69 names. They both have posted on this board for over a decade. Not the best way to crash a party.
b) Lowhorn could score 70 on Sat if they decide to go that route. "Congrats on having the first post with a "score". Bonus points for being the first person EVER in any of these "closed scrimmages" to indicate that your team did not win. Or is "they"....."we"? In these events there are so many variables that score is not the focus. Both coaches almost certainly try a whole host of various player combinations to see what combos show the most promise, etc. "

I will check to make sure, but NAIA Teams begin practice a lot sooner than NCAA D1 Teams. They also had the advantage of having a game under their belt. We got our tail kicked last year playing NAIA Fresno Pacific. They also had more practice time and therefore were more prepared as a team. You play exhibitions to get ready for the real season. As I recall, Fresno Pacific had one heck of a player....former Freno State player. NAIA rules are much different. I don't think they have a 5 year rule. Thus some of their palyers might be 25+ years old. No redshirt issues, etc. I'd say, in general, that NAIA teams are much tougher than D2 teams. Just my quick cut opinion. I do recall that Bob Galliard told me that when Lewis $ Clark went for NAIA to NCAA D2 it was much tougher to recruit under the new rules. - Re: Still no EXCUSES WE ARE A NCAA D 1

Also have to agree. I have heard Tanya speak at one of the dinners a couple of years ago and she has great charachter. Really enjoyed watching them play last year. It really is not all about winning. Everyone wants to win, but sometimes, you just don't have the horses. What is really enjoyable as a coach is when you sneak up on people, play scrappy and battle. We saw that when the mens team beat Santa Clara last year. Working hard gets you better. Playing against better players gets you better. - Re: Still no EXCUSES WE ARE A NCAA D 1

no offense, but this sounds a tad apologetic on behalf of haave. character aside, it is about winning. the main reason why the university puts resources towards athletics is to position the university within a regional and national marketplace. it should be a year of truth for haave, and she would probably admit that off the record. these are her players and the team is coming off a bad season. - Re: Still no EXCUSES WE ARE A NCAA D 1

Not saying that everyone does not want to win. If everythings was = then every team would be a .500 team, so everyone is out there trying to get good and sometimes it takes a little longer or sometimes a change is better, but as far as I know it is a clean program and believe me losing is no fun, but it does make you stronger. - Re: Still no EXCUSES WE ARE A NCAA D 1

eh...i think this is a case of "thread confusion". it happens on message boards.
your point was that USF needs to win all games- be they conference, nonconference, secret scrimmage, whatever. then everybody informed you that exhibition games are for practice, not winning...with expectations adjusted accordingly.

Sorry Donho...I have to disagree with this one.
It IS about winning. Sure there are other things involved, but she is the coach...to win...not to lose.
If they don't have the horses, it is her job to find them, and bring them to USF. That is why the school pays her.

10 and under team took on a much more talented 12 and under team and lost 7-6. Anything can happen. We use to play JC teams CSM, Laney, you lose some times. You have a bad day and they have a great one. - Re: Still no EXCUSES WE ARE A NCAA D 1

Division II LeMoyne College stunned Syracuse 82-79 in an exhibition game Tuesday...
Funny, I don't remember UVA giving up their season after their infamous game in Hawaii years ago

okay one of our former basketball players lives in SO Cal and goes to Vanguard graduate school. They are not a powder Puff team - they are ranked #2 in the country in the NAIA . They did loose to Stanford big time - but then Stanford is Stanford ! - They are playing Cal tonight -
