I'm not a coach and I don't play one on TV so I'm not going to pretend to decipher individual players, so in short: 1) That's the most talent I've seen USF have since its reincarnation. Size, shooters, speed. I was completely impressed. (Mind you they are very young and will go through many ups and downs this season. It's a learning process into D1 hoops.) 2) Someone should have taped Walters speech and just replay it over and over. Great speaker! Great salesman. If he ever stops coaching he can sell Pintos and be successful. I was ready to play football against Alabama after his talk. 3) For some odd reason, there was a larger attendance in the past. But the people that were there were clearly excited. I've not felt a better vibe since 1985. Hopefully future success on the court creates a new generation of donors and fans. When you think about it, the attendance is no surprise considering USF has neglected the program for years. Especially considering how many have walked away over the last 20 months. Remember, rock bottom was only March 2008. And how many "young" alums have been interested in USF basketball since 1995, and why would they be? Getting people back, and attracting new USF fans, will be a long and arduous process. 4) DGM & Sempadian. It's been said and I agree. 5) I've never seen such a focused and professional effort for this 6th Man Club to finally succeed. In the past it's only been talk with no presentation. 6th Man Club used to be mentioned but no one knew anything about it. For the first time, it's an actual product, with direction, with actual hard copy flyers depicting a goal. An actual donor club that people are aware of and confident in. 6) A real D1 program is being created. Top to bottom. Not just a team but an ENTIRE PROGRAM. Every nook and cranny is covered by RW and staff. Hardest working group since James Brown. 7) RW again - with the help of the 6th Man Club - mentions the many needs to succeed. MANY NEEDS. Needing donations to pay his staff, modern equipment and a better home schedule, etc... Need for academic advisors and strength and conditioning mentioned....once again. Two of many things needed to compete at a championship level. He's also donating to the 6th Man Club himself!! Himself!! 8) Again, in such a short time of recruiting, considering he took the job 18 months ago, that is the most talent I've seen. So many potential weapons, speed and size. Very young but, without question whatsoever, it's a MUCH higher level of talent. Considering San Francisco's name and tradition, and already with Gonzaga's existing national stature (high rankings and home games versus Wake Forest, Michigan State, Oklahoma, etc) and subsequently the WCC's national profile with a top TV contract, I don't think USF needs long to get a national profile. It's very exciting. It appears RW is actually - amazingly - building a genuine and real top-level PROGRAM that's been absent for decades. Provided he's allowed to and given the tools.
