Yeah, not to inflame this too much, but if, say, Washington had recruited a citizen of a country of terror and another playing in basically a semi-pro league, and neither of them showed up on campus for over 2 weeks after school had started, what would the Zag fans be saying about that program???????
Although many of them were mad at Brock Osweiler graduating early from high school, so he could get a semester jump at Arizona State, so I guess that whole classroom thing is an afterthought.
I'm assuming Harris is going to take beginning German, Kong French 1, along with some random PE and art appreciation type classes to get eligible. - Re: I'm afraid of people

I would worry more about USF's academic standing than Gonzaga's.

I believe it behooves the WCC and the NCAA to investigate this matter and make sure that Harris and Kong did in fact enroll into time to meet WCC and NCAA guidelines. - Re: I'm afraid of people

Probably the NCAA will not.
If my recollections are correct, it has been reported that they also dropped most of the same penalty Vince got for the Georgetown guy in the same boat. My understanding is that Georgetown apparently had an AD who appealed on behalf of the student unlike Vince's AD who apparently did not deem an appeal worthwhile or appropriate.
All of that said, both situations were different from Kong and Harris as both students previously punished were on campus and attending classes from the beginning of the semester, - Re: I'm afraid of people

From Walter's last statement, all players had shown up to all classes, and are required to sit in the first 3 rows, so I think that covers it from the USF end.
As for Harris being an amateur, sure. But, plenty of Euro players have been suspended by the NCAA for playing in the same type of leagues that he has played in.
And, as QD said, the whole hold up with Kong was that he never became a Canadian citizen. - Re: I'm afraid of people

I am a fan of Rex Walters and I am glad he's paying attention to the right things. There is a big difference between now and USF's recent academic history -- is it next year that the Don's will once again receive the full compliment of basketball scholarships?
Bol Kong is a citizen of Canada. Elias Harris is an amateur. Those are two undisputed facts.
Things would have been easier for Bol Kong had he become a Canadian citizen as a child immediately after immigrating from the Sudan. The fact that he didn't become a citizen of Canada until he was an adult impacted his ability to obtain the proper visas to enter the United States. He now has the proper visas and is in the United States.
Having his visas in order will also permit Bol Kong to fully participate as a member of Team Canada -- which he has been a part of since becoming a Canadian citizen.

See, no one here denies there was a problem with the Evans/Hogan/DGM academics dynamic. There wasn't one under Brovelli, wasn't one under Mathews, now not one under Walters.
And, there were questions from posters about the Surratt's and Kellogg's when they joined the team.
But, no questions, I guess, regarding a 20 year old, ESL, never been to college, freshman joining classes 2 1/2 weeks late. DUE TO HIS CHOOSING.
And Vince Polakovic was an amateur too. An undisputed fact. But, he missed 20+ games over things like free meals with his European league team. - Re: By the way....

Like I have said in the past, no problem with Bol or Harris. Good for Gonzaga if they turn out. But, they are there to play basketball, not because Gonzaga is "someplace special".

Without getting into it, there is a history and it is personal, so no reason for me to post there, and no reason for them to post here.
But, as for as Kong and Harris, my point is if there was a Greg Oden or Kevin Durant type player in SF, one that basically said I'm going to college for a year because I have to, I'll attend class, get grades, and help the team win, but this guy just wants to continue to live with his folks so he'll go to USF, I think almost every USF fan would be happy to have him, but realize what they are getting into.
On the other hand, say the same thing for O.J. Mayo, and I think several might have some serious questions about his being on the team.
Now, I'm not putting Harris or Kong on their skill level, but I think they both might be somewhere in the middle of those players for how they are going to leave your school and program after they leave. - DC

I find it very interesting that ZAGS will say all kinds of crap in reference to other WCC institutions, but lock up there board when it comes to someone from the outside responding. Yet, they feel free to come onto other board and defend themselves or cry "victim" They want their cake and eat it. They want you to believe that if your are not a ZAG then you are jealous of their accomplishments. The fact is, their accomplishments in BB, are admired; it's the arrogance of their board and some of their fans that turn me off. I have given specific examples every time that I have knocked the Zag board.
MickMick has provided exactly zero examples.
I'm all for him given a reason why there is a problem here other than I am not a fan of Bob and Angelo, and think they are a pawn of the Zag staff, and try to eliminate any type of discussion other than if Kong is going to be an All-WCC guy for 3 years or for only 2.

Other than Walters at USF before the media. Walberg getting fired. And Evans getting hired. And several recruits.
Other than that, nothing.
I know nothing about how Harris and Kong are doing at Gonzaga. I just know they are showing up late. I do know that Fitz cheated and got caught. Amaya got caught using racial slurs in SF. Davis was recruited from a fake prep school. Heytvelt and Davis got busted for drugs. Skinner beat students up in a dorm room. And all of that was squashed on the Zag board or at least told to stop posting about it.
No one mentions Kobe talking about how high Morrison was on Kimmel. Again, not allowed.

Gonzaga staff cannot contact or recruit athletes during several down periods. So they tell Bob and Angie to do it for them. Bob and his followers (CDC, etc), at the request of the GU staff, post how these recruits will "step right in for __________ when he graduates." or they will become the next Morrison or Daye. Or that GU is a "perfect fit" for their skills. That is illegal. And it is exactly the kind of thing that the NCAA will ding a mid-major for.
They dodged the bullett on the posts requesting that GU boosters call their Senators about Kong, but they need to be very careful.
Dont forget that Dr. Abe (the guy with the very interesting MySpace and Youtube pages) blatantly offered to give recruits plane tickets. He also offered to "privately" fund a scholarship so they could go over the 13 man limit. And then he said he wasn't kidding. - Re: I'm afraid of people
