I have always contended that the NCAA should require every D1 school to have a real (permanent) home-and-home series with every other D1 school within a 100-mile radius. This is good for student athletes (shorter travel), builds natural local rivalries (which certain schools view as anathema, but actually builds more interest in the sport), and also takes out the political games involved in building a non-conf schedule. Imagine if Rex was able to sit down at the beginning of scheduling a season and see 16 WCC games plus SJSU, Sac State, Cal, UOP, Stanford, and UC Davis already on the slate. Not much work left to do at that point. Imagine how it would be for LMU and Pepperdine. Would they even need to schedule a non-conf game with anyone outside a 100 miles?
